Bio

I am an agroecologist and weed scientist currently based in Eugene, Oregon. I love food and nature, and I try to use the scientific method to align food systems with natural systems. I like weeds because I think that they can tell us a lot about agriculture and other human-impacted landscapes. My research focuses on how pest management, pesticides, and biodiversity affect agricultural sustainability.

Right now, I’m a postdoc in the Hallett Lab in the Institute of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Oregon. We’re working on introducing native biodiversity to hazelnut orchards through cover cropping. I recently earned a PhD at UC Davis, studying weed ecology and integrated pest management with Brad Hanson in the Horticulture & Agronomy Graduate Group.

I grew up near Washington, DC, which is a town of Northern charm and Southern efficiency. I have spent some time living and traveling in the Upper Midwest and the South. When I’m not thinking about food, I love bicycles, music, and, for better or worse, DC sports.
